Let's talk resolutions

Posted on in Blog
With the New Year fast approaching many are thinking about New Years resolutions. I have made a few steps to think about before deciding your New Years resolution and how to help you stick to them.

·         BE REALISTIC – the easiest way to fall short on your goal is making it unattainable. For example, instead of making your resolution to NEVER eat chocolate again try to cut down.

·         PLAN AHEAD – don’t panic make a resolution on New Years Eve. By waiting until the last minute, it will be based on your mindset that day. Instead brainstorm ideas until you have one that works for you.

·         MAKE A PLAN – once you decide on your resolution you need to decide how you are going to make it happen. How will you deal with temptation? How will you motivate yourself?

·         LISTS – for some people it is easier to visualize their resolution on paper. What are the pro’s? What are the con’s?

·         TALK – tell those close to you what you are looking to achieve. With a good support system to keep you on track the resolution may not seem so daunting.

·         REWARDS – it is always helpful to reward yourself so you can work towards your goal. Now try to make sure your reward does not contradict your resolution. For example, if your resolution is to cut down on chocolate don’t look to reward yourself with a box of chocolates.

·         TRACK YOUR PROGRESS – short term goals are easier to keep and each accomplishment will help you to stay motivated towards your main goal!

·         CREATE A HABBIT – it takes about 21 days (according to experts) to create a habit. Things don’t happen overnight so be patient.

·         DON’T LOSE HOPE – there’s nothing worse than getting to mid-Jan and you have lost all motivation to achieve your resolution. IF you do find yourself moving away from your goal recommit yourself for 24 hours. Each of these will then build on each other until you are back on track.

    We’ve Got Your Twelve O’clock

My late daddy was a bombardier on the RAF, Great Britain Royal Air Force, Lancaster bomber during WWII. Being a bombardier, he was upfront in the plane with his Norden bombsight being the bomb aimer to help liberate the world from the Axis powers. He was there on the “morning” of D-Day off the coast of France helping bombard the fortifications along the coast.
